Traditional service at FUMCG

worship details

Below is a quick introduction of what to expect when coming to our 11:00 service.

  • GENERAL INFORMATION

Our traditional service is held in the sanctuary. We stream the service so you are welcome to view it online, or to join us in person as well. We have bulletins for each service listing the order of worship to help everyone follow along.

  • music

During this service, we sing from the hymnal. Our choir leads us, as well as our trusty choir Director, Doug Rayle, who plays the organ. We also have a handbell choir that performs from time to time, as well as special offertory's, a prelude and a postlude when appropriate.

  • children's time

Every Sunday we share our faith with the children in a "children's sermon." This happens early in service to make sure wiggly ones can scoot on to the nursery, which is always open with a dedicated staff person during worship.

  • CHILDREN IN WORSHIP

Every Sunday in the Narthex outside of our sanctuary, you will find red drawstring 'Kid Kits' for worship.  Inside each bag will be a children's bulletin, coloring pages, and crayons for kids to enjoy throughout the service. Can't find them - just ask an usher and they can point you in the right direction.

  • Communion

We partake in the holy sacrament of Communion on the first Sunday of the month. We offer gluten free bread options and grape juice only. We use hand sanitizer for all our servers just prior to the distribution of the elements. We share the bread and the cup by intinction, while also offering individual cups for those who need to abstain from the common cup.

  • Baptisms

On special occasions, with pastoral preparation and scheduling, we baptize old and young alike during worship. We use a font and typically sprinkle the water, following a liturgy, wherein the baptized becomes a member of the FUMCG family.

  • special events & seasons

We have some lovely traditions throughout the year and we mark them in worship in a variety of ways. It depends on where we are in the calendar year and the liturgical calendar. These special Sundays can often include rites of passage, like confirmation Sunday, or graduation Sunday.

  • Combined worship on 5th Sundays

Every fifth Sunday, we suspend our usual routine of hosting two worship services. Instead, we combine worship and have one service at 10:00 a.m. These take place in Stafford Hall, with brunch afterwards, and the praise team and choir share music leadership.
